WATER PNG has signed a memorandum of understanding with the East New Britain government to develop the Kokopo town sewerage project.
It was signed yesterday by Water PNG managing director Raka Taviri and administrator Wilson Matava.
Taviri said Water PNG would provide technical assistance while the provincial government provided funding and administrative support.
He said the agreement would allow facilitation of funding to Water PNG, the establishment of village water committees to monitor and report vandalism, the assurance of zero landowner interference with the sewerage project and the awareness and promotion of the project to impacted villages.
Taviri said the project would be implemented in two phases. The first will involve construction supervision, project management and commissioning of the sewerage project from Butuwin to Rapopo.
The second will be from Rapopo to Tokua to be developed later.
