Wells gets top award in pioneer programme

SPORTS administrator and Papua New Guinea Swimming president, Elizabeth Wells received the PNG Olympic Committee’s best student award in advanced sport management course of the Managing Olympic Sport Organisation’s (MOSO) programme that was run in Port Moresby.
Wells along with colleagues, Sophia Tuna, Clarence Palin, Suluet Tarasomo and Helen Havora, who were the first people in PNG to do the course, received their certificates after completing six modules of the programme.
The final assignment involved delivering a case presentation.
The presentations by each of them were made to national federation executives who attended the PNGOC’s annual general assembly on June 17.
The MOSO course is part of the Oceania sports education programme and was organised by the PNGOC as part of their commitment to improving the capacity of national sports federations.
The PNG MOSO 1 has six modules: organising an Olympic sport organisation, managing, managing human resources, managing finance, managing marketing and organising a major sporting event.
PNGOC secretary-general Auvita Rapilla said the PNGOC’s focus to build up capacity within the national federations.
President Sir John Dawanincura urged national federations to put forward nominations for PNG MOSO 2 which starts in March.
Wells thanked the PNGOC for the award and shared the views of her colleagues that the course had crystalised their knowledge and experiences into working plans.
In particular, it was because of her learning in the MOSO that had helped her draft a marketing plan which saw PNG Swimming Inc. win the bid to host the 2018 Oceania Championships.
MOSO programme director Alurigo Ravusiro said applications for the second MOSO course were now open.
Applications are welcome from executives of national federations for sports, teachers involved with federations and sports administrators of member federations.
