Western Highlands celebration disrupted

BAD weather and the disruption to power supply dampened the spirits of the people of Western Highlands during Independence Day last Friday.
Rain had continued over the week while there was no power over three days until Saturday.
The only celebration was at the Hagen electorate where MP William Duma joined his people and gave out K820,000 to groups.
He gave K450,000 to the Pala and Wanka Development Association, Kaipa Oporr Drug Resolution and weightlifting officials.
He gave K20,000 to the national softball contest being held in Mt Hagen and K50,000 to the singsing groups who took part in the opening of the Kulga community health centre.
Last Saturday, he gave K300,000 to the Kimuka Farmers and Development Association.
He told the people that Independence Day should remind everyone that PNG was 41 years old and for them to see how far they had come.
“We are still on a journey and we need to be proud that we have come this far,” Duma said.
He thanked the softballers from other centres who were in Mt Hagen to participate in the national championship.
