Wewak General Hospital to open K4mil surgical wards

FOUR new surgical wards for Wewak General Hospital in East Sepik will be opened tomorrow, according to the chief executive officer Mark Mauludu.
Mauludu said the wards were built for K4million by the Government funding through the public investment programme coordinated through Department of National Planning and Monitoring.
“The four new wards that will be opened is the first phase of the rehabilitation work that is being carried out at the hospital,” he said.
Mauludu said patients were expected to be moved into the new wards by yesterday afternoon.
The new wards will cater for up to 40 beds.
“We hope to have similar work carried out on the other wards by 2019 or 2020,” he said.
This is the first rehabilitation programme of the hospital since it was established in the early 1960s.
Mauludu said work on the new wards began in late 2015 and was carried out by the Gold Bell Construction Company.
The opening of the wards will coincide with the hospital’s second annual general meeting during which the hospital will present its 2016 report to the Minister for Health through the Health Secretary and the Governor through the provincial administrator.
