THE Hela provincial government has committed K600,000 for the new sponsorship arrangement between the Kumul Petroleum Holdings and the Hela Wigmen to take rugby league to the next level.
Hela Governor Francis Potape, pictured, announced his government’s commitment during the signing of the K1.2 million sponsorship agreement between KPH and the Hela Wigmen in Port Moresby recently.
Potape said the money would be derived from the K45m development levy of which K600,000 would go towards developing rugby league in Hela under the partnership arrangement.
“I thank the resource firm for supporting Hela Wigmen in the semi-professional competition, the Digicel Cup,” he said.
He said such partnerships were a mark of change for the province.
He commended Ipswich Jets from Queensland Rugby League for partnering with Hela Wigmen, which will see players playing for the Ipswich Jets in the Queensland Rugby League.
He called on the Wigmen board to build their own sports infrastructure.
