The book by Papua New Guinean women writers My Walk to Equality will be showcased at two international literary festivals in Queensland, an official says.
Author and project coordinator Rashmii Bell said they were looking forward to the PNG literature in the Sunshine Coast International Readers and Writers Festival in Coolum on August 11 and at the Brisbane Writers Festival (BWF17) in Brisbane on September 8 and 10.
The collection of short stories by PNG women overcoming gender-based violence titled ‘My Walk to Equality’, a volume of evocative essays, short stories and poems written by 45 Papua New Guineans, was published by Pukpuk Publications recently.
“The team is thrilled at the opportunity to take our writings to an international audience who share a passion for literature. For some, it will be their first time to read and hear of the presence and motivations of Papua New Guinean women’s writing,” Bell said.
“When I presented at the BWF16, the audience asked to hear more positive stories from Papua New Guinea.”
At BWF17, Bell will chair a conversation between  Vanessa Gordon and Tania Basiou, with a separate presentation by literary identities Michael Sala and Kerrie Davies.
