METHODIST women from the Ratavul Circuit Women’s Fellowship in East New Britain will soon have a resource centre at Tinganalom ward in Kokopo district.
Deputy Prime Minister Sir Leo Dion officiated at a ground breaking ceremony last Sunday to begin the project.
Speaking during the event, women representative Reslyn Kivu said women in the circuit had realised their struggles and decided to build a resource centre to give mothers and young women a learning environment to help improve their lives at home and in the communities.
She said there were cultural problems in most communities in ENB that indicated a lack of respect among men and women, elders and youths.
Kivu said there were many marriage problems faced in the rural communities and women needed help in terms of empowerment.
She said many women in the area were illiterate making it difficult for them to understand resource materials.
She said the resource centre would help women in the area to be creative, helpful, useful and resourceful.
Kivu said it would also help women to acknowledge and appreciate their worth so they could be able to be productive in their communities.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. We want to encourage that in women in our communities. God’s wisdom is the way forward in living a better and improved life.”
Sir Leo thanked the women in the circuit for submitting their project proposal to his office.
