Works implementing major projects

The Works Department is implementing some of the major infrastructure projects in the country, says Works Secretary David Wereh, pictured.
Wereh told The National that infrastructure development undertaken came with a new standard the department was adopting to take into account the impact of climate change.
“Kumusi is one of the high standard and modern bridges that we have built,” he said.
Wereh said the impact of climate change on transport infrastructure must be considered.
“These are bridges we have designed to cover the floods related to cyclone,” he said. Wereh thanked the Australian government for delivering exceptionally well on some of the major important infrastructures, especially the four bridges in Northern.
“Within the last three years that we have embarked on this project and to see it finally to come to completion is a great achievement for the department,” he said.
“We are very proud that we have finally delivered these bridges to the required standards and I think it’s also equal to the value of money that we have spent.”
Wereh said it was part of the Government’s development plan to capture some of the important links to connect Port Moresby to Gulf and Southern Highlands, and Gulf to Morobe.
