Madang’s new governor Peter Yama received a surprise welcome from town residents who turned up as early as 7am on Monday.
Yama’s arrival marks a new chapter for the province currently thriving with big projects.
He was received by deputy governor and local level government president for Sumgilbar Rama Marisan and other LLG presidents, Madang provincial administrator Daniel Aloi, public servants and Madang police commander Superintendent Jacob Singura and other officers.
A convoy of more than 50 vehicles went around town before lining up near his Smugglers Inn hotel.
Yama said he would announce why he joined the government side last Friday during a mini celebration he would stage to thank those who had supported his campaign.
“Even three-year-olds to the five-year-olds  shouted and cheered which showed the hunger in their parents for the services they need,” Yama said.
The Highlands community in Madang sang ‘Yama yu style mangi ya’ while hundreds flocked into the PLP field to hear their new governor.
