WESTERN Highlands businessman Francis Ngomba has described the 5.9% increase in tariff by PNG Power Ltd as a “daylight robbery” for business houses and ordinary people.

Ngomba, the owner of FN Trading, said people were being forced to dig deeper into their pockets to pay their power bills, adding that PNG was one of the expensive countries to do business.

“Businesses are very important as they are developing partners. We pay tax, provide job employment and contribute in national development.”

Ngomba said it would force many businesses to invest abroad because costs were too high.

“I pay PNG Power more than K7,000 a month for my bakery and with the increase, I will end up paying almost K10,000 a month which is too much.

“The government must consider how to operate a business in PNG as with the Kina devaluation it is costing us more.”
