‘Don’t hassle MSU for results’

PARENTS have been urged to wait patiently for their children’s examination results instead of lining up every day at the office of the measurement services unit (MSU) at Waigani in Port Moresby.
This concern was raised yesterday by MSU executive officer for Grade Eight, Colin Loi, in regard to the Grade Eight marking that is underway in all provinces.
He said it had been the practice for many parents and guardians of Grade Eight students every year to go to the office and demand to see their children’s results.
“Some of them wait from eight o’clock to four or five o’clock thinking that we have the results but in actual fact, we don’t,” he said.
“We (MSU) only develop the examinations and print them out; other than that where funding and final results are concerned, we have nothing to do with that.”
He said the only people in authority are the provincial education board in each province who endorse the final results and then send them over to the MSU for national records.
Selection is then done by the headmaster and principal of each school according to the spaces in their schools and the classroom size.
Mr Loi confirmed that MSU only dealt with the Grades 10 and 12 results.
Meanwhile, marking for Grade Eight is almost complete, except for the Simbu province, which will finish by Friday.
Mr Loi urged parents to wait and check for their children’s results in their respective schools instead of giving the MSU officers a hard time.
