‘Financial Inclusion Day’ set for Sept

THE “Financial Inclusion Day” organised by the Consultative Implementation and Monitoring Council’s financial inclusion sub-committee, is tentatively scheduled to be held in September.
This follows a grim 2008 World Bank report that found out that only 8% of the population in PNG has access to financial services while a whopping 90% are “financially excluded”.
The CIMC’s informal economy committee’s financial inclusion sub-committee, realising the seriousness of the problem, held a meeting on Tuesday to start planning for the day.
A committee concept paper said there had never been such a day like this proposed before, although there had been informal economy skills expos in the past.
“The initiative is spearheaded by the financial inclusion sub-committee of the CIMC informal economy committee,” it said.
“The ‘Financial Inclusion Day’ will be held to highlight the need for policies to be driven to this important area.”
and provide the service providers and the stakeholders of the road ahead and the progress that has been made so far in attaining the goal of ‘financial inclusiveness’.”
