‘Great Koki wall’ longest mural in southern hemisphere

THE recently completed mural by local artists on the Koki-Ela Beach “Great Koki Wall” has been dubbed by organisers as the longest mural in the southern hemisphere, if not the world.
Under the supervision of UPNG’s visual anthropology lecturer Dr Nicholas Garnier, and administered by the Ginigoada Bisnis Development Foundation Inc, the week-long project involved more than 100 youths from the Moresby South electorate.
Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry president David Conn said at the launch of the project yesterday: “This may surely be the longest mural in the world and is also a showpiece for the public to see that such things can be done to create a better image for the city.
“Many people were behind this project which took years to finalise.
“Big business houses supported the project with paints, paintbrushes, refreshments and pocket money for the youths’ efforts,” Mr Conn said.
Sponsors of the project included Rotary Club of Boroko, NCDC, UPNG, Akzo Nobel, Stop N Shop, Lae Biscuit, No.1 Trophy Haus, Digicel, Brian Bell, Eckart & Marion Garbe of Germany, Moresby South electorate and BSP.
