WESTERN Highlanders who live out of the province should not comment on the state of Mt Hagen city, David Maip says.
Maip, founder of the Mt Hagen Kona Kai concept and law and order chairman, said they should instead help to make the city clean and safe.
“You must not become a spectator as you are a Western Highlander and this your city and home,” he said.
“How do you feel when you are destroying the good name of your own place?
“Or how much have you contributed so far to get rid of the bad name of your city?
“As Western Highlanders we all must contribute ideas and resources to keep our town safe.”
Maip said negative comments could destroy the good image of the city and affect the flow of business and investors into the province.
He said the Western Highlands provincial government was funding the Hagen Kona Kai concept and should be commended for taking ownership of the concept.
Maip said apart from the provincial government, Hagen Open MP and Minister for Petroleum and Energy William Duma had bought a backhoe and a motor vehicle for the Mt Hagen city authority.
He said his office was now waiting for the K50,000 commitment from Dei MP and Minister for Civil Aviation Puri Ruing.
Maip said if everyone contributed Mt Hagen city could become a nice and safe place to live and work in.
