GIANT-killers, Leftovers have continued their surge up the ladder in Pool Red of the Nega Nega darts competition in Tubusereia Village, outside Port Moresby.

Winless after game three of the first round, Leftovers began their surge during the fourth game of the round, defeating Lui Haodas Magic 7-2.

Led by skipper Nanai Hekoi, Leftovers – made up of remnants of the bigger teams – thus the name, then followed that up with wins against Patrick Hanes, Natures Own, Iubu Asis Mulai, and Association Chairman Phil Manus Galasi to complete round one with a 4-3 win-loss record.

To prove these round one wins were no fluke, Leftovers began round two with another win over serious title contenders and Stanley Willies Feiva (5-4), Gerry Karikos Highway (5-4) before causing the upset of their pool when they defeated runaway leader and Toea Kilas Paixz (7-2).

Leftovers then beat Magic and now sit on 16 points, two points shy of leaders Paixz, who collected an easy 9-0 win when they forfeited Galasi. Paixz then defeated Natures Own (5-4) to maintain their lead on 18 points.

With results of game four of round two played on Tuesday night yet to come in, Madi Hekwas Spicy have opened up a hot lead in Pool Green, winning all their games to date. Sitting comfortably on 20 points, Spicy is on target to take out the minor premiership in this pool ahead of Tau Hekwas Shooters (14 points), Jack Davanas Anagau (14), and Nanadai Maimus Chalkdust (12).

Gold Pool early leaders, Rarua Nous Pere have suffered two unexpected losses to allow Lakani Henaos Pending to zoom past them. Pending was on 16 points after game three of the second and final round. Pere sits on 14 points. Julius Rakas Hilltop (12), Bobby Perukas Biugili (10), Ivan Manokas Wipeout (8) and Alois Sinyois Kaliu (8) are still within striking range.

Association chairman Phil Manu said the competition was played on Tuesdays and Thursdays and involved youths and adults from the village.

Each pool will have a minor premier before the first four teams in each pool play each other to earn the title of pool premiers.

The premiers of the four pools will then play each other to determine the eventual premiers of the Nega Nega Darts Association. The competition is expected to end in June.
