‘Missing link’ gets K10 million

The missing road link between East and West New Britain provinces will soon be completed with the East New Britain Provincial Government allocating K10 million for the road. 

ENB Governor and Kokopo MP Ereman ToBaining Junior announced that K6 million was already in the hands of the contractor to begin construction work that would link the provinces by road for the first time. 

Gazelle MP Malakai Tabar also announced that roads within the inland Baining area from Lamaraim to Raunsepna and Malasaet to Kasaska and Vunapalading were being upgraded. 

The missing link will pass through these sections of the road into Kokopo. 

ToBaining said service delivery in health, infrastructure, education and law and order was being felt as a result of a united approach and focus by the province’s parliamentarians. 

“Today you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  The old has gone and the new has come. We have to open up a new chapter and move forward,” ToBaining said. 

He urged his people to work together with Regional MP and Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion and Tabar to bring development to the province. 

He challenged the people and provincial administration to take ownership and responsibility in sustaining these developments. 

He said the national government had increased funding to districts and LLGs so the people have to fulfil their part by taking ownership of resources and looking after them. 

“The government of today will be pumping money into priority areas of development but the question to us the people is: What will happen to this government services and developments? “Are we going to take ownership and responsibility in looking after them?” he said.
