‘NEB must work with other bodies’

EDUCATION Minister James Marape has reminded National Education Board (NEB) members that the board is the highest decision-making body which is directly answerable to the minister.
“The NEB must continue to advice provincial governments, the Teaching Services Commission, education boards and education agencies on matters affecting the national education system,” Mr Marape said at the opening of the 167th NEB meeting on Tuesday in Manus.
He said the NEB influenced the policies of Government, the education system and the management of its direction.
“The Government’s Vision 2050 sets the overall direction in the framework for a smart, wise, fair, healthy and happy society by 2050.
“Under the vision, the Government believes it can empower the people  with the right education and life skills needed to  provide them with the opportunity to earn an honest living.
“The aim of the Government’s policy of a strong economic leadership is also to ensure that the benefits of a stronger economy flow to the people, providing more opportunities for everyone, especially the rural folk,” he said.
“Our focus on education is to improve infrastructure like classrooms, and houses in order to support inspectors and teachers in the districts to carry out their tasks professionally,” Mr Marape said.
