A VILLAGE leader is urging drivers to refrain from drinking because it causes road accidents.

Michael Tapela from Pangia village, in Southern Highlands, said this after two people were recently killed in a road accident.

The driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of the vehicle which veered off the road and crashed into a creek.

Tapela said road accidents often led to loss of lives and damage to properties. The accident happened on Oct 21 and village elders are demanding compensation.
