‘Release school funding immediately’

MINJ Provincial High School’s Board of Governors (BOG) wants the South-Waghi District Planning and Budget Priority Committee to quickly release the K500,000 committed by local MP Jamie-Maxtone Graham.
BOG chairman Pete Aii said the money was committed last year for the construction of a new duplex dormitory and school fencing.
“The delay is likely to affect the operation of the 2010 academic year. We need the money to operate.
“Our duplex dormitory was burnt down last year and the funding is badly needed for a new dormitory to accommodate the increasing student population,” he said.
He also appealed to other Jiwaka MPs to consider assisting the school.
s“This school serves students from three districts in Jiwaka as well as other districts of the province. The respective MPs and leaders should feel obligated to assist,” he said.
Mr Aii said the school would have the first Grade 11 intake next year, elevating it to the second secondary school in the new province.
The district administrator’s office could not be reached for comment. 
Classes commenced yesterday with more than 800 Grade 9 and 10 students.
