‘Unnecessary spending’

 CHIEF Secretary Manasupe Zurenuoc has strongly criticised the National Housing Corporation (NHC) for using public funds to pay for congratulatory messages in the newspapers on his award.  

“I’m disappointed that the NHC has used public funds to pay for these full page advertisements in the newspapers congratulating me on my knighthood,” he said in a brief statement yesterday.

“I accept that people want to express their appreciation of the decision by Government to recognise my service.

“But I’m against the use of public funds to pay for newspaper advertisements. 

“I don’t need that. We need public funds to be better spent in ways that tangibly benefit the owners of that money.”

He added that the custodians of public funds must exercise restraint in expenditures of such nature.
