IT will be a moment of truth for 09ers when they take on their respective opponents in the Madang softball grand final tomorrow.
09ers have both men and women’s teams in the finals to take on Kalibobo Reds and Newtown Tigers respectively.
Madang Softball Association president Warren Kakat said it should be an interesting showdown as all three teams were making their debut.
The association is expecting a good crowd at Yabong Park to catch the action.
In the women’s game, Takaili Sisters, pitcher Jacklyn and Fidelma along with short stop Vanessa Molean should lead the girls from Kalibobo Light House.
09ers will be boasting of Judith Gabong at the pitching mound and catcher Siloru Tamilong, to put up a good fight against Lighthouse girls.
It will be a more exciting and interesting encounter in the men’s final when Madang’ representative players clash with each other.
09ers Meli Taragau, who is at the pitching mound, will be up against Tigers’ evergreen Ishmael Marnapal.
Despite Marnapal declaring Madang softball as the year of the Tigers, Taragau with his fellow Briton Zale (third base), Micha Zale (short stop) and catcher Kelly Upaupa, definitely disagree and want to prove it on the diamonds.
Marnapal will get the help from his short stop and PNG representative Joe Petau and ageless Tony Seeto of Tumbuna Tracks fame who will be manning the first base.
The biggest question in the men’s final is whether or not 09ers will beat Tigers.
09ers have won two of their three outings so it will be an exciting match to watch.
