MORE than 1000 Nazarene youths from Melanesia are attending a youth convention at the University of Technology in Lae.
The 1118 youths from Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Samoa are attending the congress during the day and doing ecumenical crusades at night.
The North Coast, which is hosting the conference, welcomed the participants with cultural and contemporary dances.
The North Coast consists of youths from Morobe, Madang and Manus. The last convention hosted by the district was in 1992.
Guest speakers at the congress include the Melanesia and South Pacific Nazarene youth field coordinator from Fiji Daniel Lautu.
The convention was opened by Nazarene board chairman and East Sepik district superintendent Reverend Yambe Sike.
Sike was happy about the turnout.
“We have grown and are matured. There was unity, and that’s the reason for us to progress,” Sike said.
He challenged the youths to remain in a spirit of unity to grow the ministry and expand God’s kingdom.
