ONE thousand people, a fifth of the 5000 population of Igam Barracks in Lae, have registered their names with the Lae mobile National Identification team.
The NID team, headed by Nicholar Boas and Ronald Wolfie, were assigned to Government institutions in the city.
Boas said soldiers at Igam and their dependents, as well as cadets, turned up to be registrated.
The team spent about three weeks at the barracks to register soldiers and their dependants, together with the retired and their families.
According to Boas, an awareness talk on how to apply for the NID product was conducted among soldiers on Oct 2, with registration taking place a week later.
“The listening would sometimes turn into advice on how the applicant should fill the form,” she said.
“This process ensures quality as well as quantative data which would be utilised by other statistical departments.
“So far, about a fifth of the population has been registered.
“With the boosting of mobile registration kits, the number in the registration of the population will double in the weeks to come.”
