12 men rob Lae variety store

TWELVE armed men fled with more than K3,000 after holding up the Rauma 18 Variety shop in Eriku on Monday morning.
According to a witness, who was in front of the shop, at about 8.45am, the men came in a Toyota double cabin vehicle and parked between the drive through of the Andersons and the Rauma 18 outlets.
Two men got out of the vehicle and held up the lone security guard outside the shop while the rest went into shop and disarmed the security guards inside of their weapons and radios.
They then took out all the earnings at the counter along with a “several thousands” at the back office.
A staff member at the shop said the men attempted to tazke away the earnings of the weekend but were not successful as staff refused to cooperate and the robbers, seeing that they were running out of time, ran out with the morning’s takings.
