THE Government Printing Office (GPO) celebrated its 130 years of service to PNG on Friday in Port Moresby.
To celebrate the milestone, Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari commissioned a new Speedmaster printer, the organisation’s newlook website and its five-year corporate plan.
Lupari congratulated the management and staff of GPO and told them that he was encouraged by the display of teamwork demonstrated by the organisation and it reflected in their success.
“This is something that I am always talking about,” Lupari said.
“When you have teamwork, you win together. In the public service today, we are short of that spirit.
“I think it is time that those who are in the leadership need to come out and show some sense of leadership to inspire those in the work place.”
Lupari acknowledged that the GPO was able to achieve the last five years’ corporate plan as a team and urged everyone to continue to do the same in the next plan.
“One of the things that you have highlighted for the next five years is that you want to see the transformation of the GPO completed to truly become a self-financing organisation serving the needs of this country,” Lupari said.
“And that is to become an authority or an organisation that operates between the public and private sector.”
Lupari believed that it was a worthy consideration and that the GPO could be assured of his support.
“That is something I have discussed with you and that is one of the main activities in the five-year corporate pan,” Lupari said.
He told the management and staff that the government was now talking about sufficiency and maximising the use of resources, and the time had come to move that agenda forward.
