THE 14 Fijians whom the Waigani National Court found to be illegally working in the country early this week, will “voluntarily” leave today, as ordered by the court on Monday.
They are booked to fly out via Honiara, in compliance with Justice Ambeng Kandakasi’s court order on Feb 4.
But should they not leave as directed by the court, a deportation order signed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration Sam Abal, is now in place to deport them, an Immigration official said yesterday.
The official also said the minister signed the deportation order on Wednesday.
“We prepared the deportation order right from the beginning of the issue when it arose two weeks ago.
“We were only able to get the minister to sign it yesterday (on Wednesday),” said the senior Immigration official responsible for the matter.
The officer also said the deportation order was only being held as an option should the Fijians fail to comply with the orders of the court to leave PNG today.
