ONE hundred and forty-seven teams representing the 12 West New Britain local level government’s including the new Ceneka LLG showed off their colours during the opening of the WNB Governor’s Cup on Monday.

The tournament was named in honour of Governor Sasindran Muthuvel.

Muthuvel said the tournament’s name would compel future governors to support the event.

He said sports brought people from all walks of life together and was an opportunity to identify raw talent in preparation to possibly host for the 2016 PNG Games.

He assured the gathering that the provincial department of Youth and Women would be established and included in the 2014 budget to look into a more structured approach to sports in creating pathways to expose talents and develop youths.

He also challenged the gathering saying: “We often discriminate and blame the youths for alcohol consumption and social problems.

The governor’s Cup will run this week and end on Sunday.
