FIFTEEN teams have registered for the corporate relay triathlon at Ela Beach this weekend.
The relay is the first of the 12 triathlon events endorsed by the new PNG Triathlon Association executives early this year.
Event manager from UpSouth event Stephen Damien confirmed that the number might increase by start of the race tomorrow morning.
Damien said the sport was getting popular among the expatriate community, including locals, as part of their way of healthy living.
The relay will comprise three athletes who will  compete in three different disciplines which include a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.
Association president Stephen Sallun reiterated that intending teams should register for the event tomorrow.
Sallun is also appealing to corporate companies who will be competing to sponsor some of the major events on the association’s calendar for this year.
“We wrote a lot of letters to business houses seeking sponsorship and we have yet to receive favourable responses.
“There is a lot of sponsorship to rugby league and the association strongly believes that triathlon can be part of the community by changing the way of people by participating in sports to stay healthy,” Sallun said.
He said there was still space for more participants and they could contact Damien for further information.
