Papua New Guinea will send a delegation of 150 to the sixth Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture (MFAC) in Honiara, Solomon Islands from July 1 to 10, Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Emil Tammur says.
He confirmed the numbers in the lead-up to the launching of the festival next Thursday.
Participating MSG member include PNG, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji and perhaps neighbouring West Papua and the Torres Strait Islands.
“Our participation is to fulfil our commitment to this festival. PNG will again send a delegation of traditional and contemporary performing groups and artists,” Tammur said.
“Before going on to other things, let me make some comments with regards to the festival media campaign.
“The media plays not only vital role but crucial function in the development of our country, and I believe it is only fair and just that we acknowledge its part from day one as we draw closer to the events leading up to the festival.
“We ask the media houses to give us the names of their journalists to be part of the PNG contingent to the Solomon Islands. So far we only received from two media outlets.”
