16 centres compete in rugby league 9s

SIXTEEN centres are competing in the rugby league nines competition which kicked off yesterday at the Lloyd Robson Oval.
The teams played their pool games with some exciting and entertaining matches.
One of the matches that was a crowd pleaser was the last match in pool 4 between Gulf Sapea Enga.
The crocodile men had the last laugh, edging out their opponents 8-4, with a last try right on fulltime by centre Morgan Airi from a chip kick after the scores were locked 4-all.
Reigning champions Team Central failed to perform to expectation.
They  drew with the underdog’s Team Western province 4-all in the match.
In pool 2, hosts NCD went down to East New Britain 8-6, Western Highands defeated Bougainville 12-8.
In pool One, Southern Highlands were gunned down by West New Britain 20-10, Eastern Highlands belted East Sepik, 14-6 while in pool three, Morobe walked over under-rated New Ireland 16-8.
Another round of pool matches will be played today, with the finals expected to be played tomorrow.
The top two teams after the normal round matches in their respective pool will qualify to the next stage.
