196 nominated for Northern LLG elections

 NOMINATIONS for the local level government election in Northern is progressing well with more expected to be nominated today. 

Assistant election manager Daisy Hombagani said nominations of candidates for the nine LLGs and 162 wards which began on Monday saw 42 vying for president seats and 154 for council members.  

Hombagani said as of Monday, the Tamata LLG recorded the highest – 31 candidates for the ward council. 

Popondetta Urban and Oro Bay had seven candidates for the LLG president. 

Data for the Tufi LLG could not be obtained.

There are no woman candidates in the province so far.

Nominations in Gulf were also progressing well, according to assistant election manager Roney Hawengao yesterday. 

National Capital District assistant election manager Roselyn Tabogani said on Monday that NCD wards were “unproclaimed” and would not be electing councillors in this election. That function is governed by the NCD Act where the election is done by the Governor’s office in Port Moresby. 

Nominations close today at 4pm followed by polling on Saturday, July 6, except Motu-Koitabu and Angoram which begin polling on Tuesday, July 9, and Saturday, Aug 3, respectively.
