They are last year’s reigning premiers BNM Engineering Souths, Welgris Rangers and Kawaso Souths from Mt Hagen, TNA Souths of Kundiawa, Goroka Snax Souths and Henganofi Souths.
The other teams are Lae Snax Souths, Madang Souths, Mendi Menjals, Kambiri Souths, Poroma Souths, Nipa Souths, Pimaga Souths, and Kawaso Souths, Mongol Souths, Pangia Souths, Erave Souths and Polopa Souths.
Two from Port Moresby – PRK Souths and Mendi Souths will be travelling for the event.
The tournament is organised by the National Souths Basketball League (NSBL) and is set to take place in Pimaga, Kutubu, from June 4-7.
League president Silas Nicky said they were expecting more teams because the event was taking place in the heart of the Kutubu oilfields.
He said the NSBL executives, along with Jacksy Tumbi and his working committee at Pimaga, were working around the clock to make the event a success.
He appealed to all Souths clubs to prepare early for the event.
He said the games were less than two months away and called on all teams to get their acts together in ensuring the event was successful.
Nicky thanked major sponsors Southern Highlands Governor Anderson Aigiru, Deputy Governor and Mendi Open MP Pr Isaac Joseph and Mineral Resource Development Company (MRDC) for their support.
He added that they needed more assistance and called on other interested companies or business houses from the province to support  either in cash or kind to make the tournament a memorable and successful one.
