BUSAMANG Primary School recently concluded their fundraiser for a school library through a sports tournament over the Christmas weekend.
More than 500 players and officials from Lae, Mumeng, Erap, Watut and Salamauau, made up 20 teams for the tournament.
They took part in soccer, basketball and volleyball.
An elated Busamang Primary School headmaster Michael Musalu told participants that their involvement was seen as a true Christmas act.
“Not only have you spent Christmas in Busamang, you importantly contributed to the education of children from Busamang and the neighbouring communities,” Musalu said.
The event was sponsored by Coca-Cola Amatil.
Lahi from Lae came on top of the soccer table after edging out Taiaps 2-1, while a baby-faced line-up of young Butibam hoopsters took out the basketball honours over hosts Busamang.
Volleyball is promoted in Salamaua after more than 20 years. City Tribesmen and Yanga walked out as the kings and queens.
With the school area used yearly for sporting events hosted by the Busamang community, Musalu expressed the need for further development of volleyball in Salamaua.
