OVER 2000 members of the Zion Church are attending a week-long international worship congress this week in Lae, Morobe.
The theme of the congress is Declaring the Day of the Lord.
The participants came from as far as the Solomon Islands, Bougainville, the New Guinea Islands region and other parts of Papua New Guinea.
The meeting is the first of its kind in Lae and Momase region.
Pastor Timothy Gaiam, of Zion worship centre, in Lae, said that according to Isaiah 2 and Joel 2, it was now the time to declare that the day of the Lord has come.
He said the worship congress was the fourth; the first three were hosted in Bougainville and New Guinea Islands region.
The week-long event will include night rallies and day sessions relating to the theme of the gathering.
Since its inception in 2012, the church has since moved through the islands region and other parts of PNG as well.
Founder Pastor Steven Joash Maganai said the meaning behind the theme was that God was preparing his people to return to Jesus.
He said the overall belief of worshippers in the recent times was based on Jeremiah 3:18 which says: “I will choose one from a city, two from a family and bring them into Zion.”
He said: “Zion is not a denomination, ministry, organisation or anything but it is a spiritual stature of the church.
“It is a spiritual gathering with people coming from different backgrounds to worship in the manner in which God himself permits for human beings to follow.”
Giam said the gathering was intended to raise believers to a level desired by God instead of sticking to the same old practices of worship.
“It is a spiritual dwelling place where human beings can come together to worship as in Psalms 132:13-14 for the Lord has chosen Zion to be his dwelling place.”
