A 26-YEAR-OLD man was jailed 28 years by the National Court in Bulolo for murder in 2018.
Judge Lawrence Kangwia convicted Epome Epope Kama, from Garaina’s Aupo village in Morobe last Wenesday.
Kama apologised in court to God and all involved in the problem caused by him and that he did not know the murder would happen.
Judge Kangwia noted from the Kama’s statement that the shooting was done in the spur of the moment to a torchlight.
The shot was meant to defray the torchlight from identifying him (Kama) and not necessarily to kill the woman.
Lawyer Vincent Agusave told the court that Kama was a first-time offender and that he accepted the conviction and expressed remorse.
“The death was triggered by the flashing of a torch in his face, and it was a spur of the moment reaction,” he added.
A State lawyer submitted that there was a loss of life and the killing was intentional as the accused and his cohort travelled a long distance from their village in search of one to kill in revenge to an earlier killing of one of his relatives.
Kama, then a high school student, on March 12, 2018, allegedly armed with a homemade shotgun went to Labisa village in Garaina in search of revenge.
