THREE students were among the 29 people who were given certificates after completing courses through the Flexible Open Distance Education Centre in Angoram, East Sepik.
The three were grade 8 students. Out of the 29, 10 were females.
The centre is a part of the Ap Ma project run by Jesse and Karie Pryor, of Outreach International PNG.
It is a church-supported non-government organisation established in 2004 to be involved in community development, education, literacy, health and development of churches. The Ap Ma Language group consists of 14 villages.
The centre was established to cater for people who needed to upgrade their marks to attain a Year 12 certificate so they can qualify for further training.
“Our dream is to localise positions with the Ap Ma people,” Karie Pryor said.
Ap Ma Fode was a correspondence centre under East Sepik Fode in 2014.
It was registered as a study centre in 2016 because it was hard for students to travel back and forth from Wewak. It is one of four registered study centres under East Sepik Foderecognised by the department of education.
The centre has a teaching staff , computer laboratory for ICT, classrooms and dormitories.
East Sepik Fode coordinator Rosey Saun said: “The Fode curriculum is aligned with the normal school system.
