PRIVATE healthcare provider 2K Medical Centre has come on board as sponsor of the Papua New Guinea Men’s Basketball League (PMBL) by paying for the venue hire of the Taurama Aquatic Centre courts for the remainder of the season.
PMBL representative Lawrence Lahari when signing the agreement yesterday thanked 2K Management Consultants through its business arm 2K Medical Centre for the assistance.
The company had a team in the competition but pulled out mid-season citing refereeing and technical inconsistencies in the management of matches.
In spite of the withdrawal the company still maintained good relations with the PMBL management.
The PMBL for its part admitted it needed to improve this area of the competition and is working with the Basketball Federation of PNG to address the up skilling of its referees.
2K Medical Centre operation manager Ferdinand Asuncion said: “2K Medical is proud to be associated with the only semi-professional league in the country, not only do we provide medical expertise to city residents but we also want to help the community in other ways such as sport with such partnerships like the one we have with basketball and the PMBL.”
Lahari said the the 2017 PMBL season will now be referred to as the PMBL-2K Basketball Challenge.
The PMBL competition will conclude in September before the Melanesian Cup which runs from Sept 27-30.
