33 women contest in Oro

 A TOTAL of 33 women will contest the local level government elections in Northern, election officials said. 

The officers said an extension of the nomination period saw the number of women candidates increase. 

Assistant election manager Daisy Hombagani said 15 women were nominated for the 28 ward councils in the Higaturu LLG.  Eight are contesting in Popondetta urban, four in Oro Bay and two each in Tufi, Kokoda and Tamata. 

In total, 199 are contesting the presidents’ seats and 861 for the ward councils.
