35,000 still to get on teachers’ NID register
ABOUT 35,000 are yet to register their details in the National Identification (NID) teacher registration programme, according to Education Secretary Uke Kombra.
He said that from the 58,037 registered teachers in the country, only 23,047 had registered for NID.
“The department is satisfied with the turn-out of teachers in phase 1 of the programme between Dec 2018 and Jan 2019,” Kombra said.
“The department will also conduct phase 2 of teachers’ registration between terms 1 and 2 holidays to avoid disruptions during teaching and learning hours.”
Kombra said the deadline for teachers to register had been extended to Dec 31.
He urged teachers to visit the NID teams in their districts after classes and weekends to get registered.
Kombra thanked school inspectors, elementary training coordinators, TFF coordinators and church education secretaries for their support towards the NID registration exercise for teachers.
The Highlands region has the highest number of registered teachers.
