A TOTAL of 36 players have been confirmed to compete in the Panamex Tennis Singles Open from 5pm tomorrow, says Lae Tennis Club president Glenn Cabasug.
“We are happy to confirm 36 entrees – 26 adults and 10 juniors – for the tournament,” he said.
“We have made it free for all juniors to make it more accessible for them to compete in the tournament.
“A total of 34 players are from Lae while two are based in Port Moresby.
“One of the Port Moresby-based players has recently been selected to represent Papua New Guinea in an overseas tournament next month.
“Having Port Moresby-based players is a bonus for Lae players, especially the juniors who will gain exposure to the level to which they need to aspire.”
Cabasug said the club had scheduled all open, women’s, masters (50-plus), Under-19 boys and U19 girls matches between tomorrow and Sunday with the finals and presentation set for the afternoon.
“All matches will be played as a normal set-first to six, tie-break at six-all, with the only exception of open semifinals played to nine with tie-break at eight-all,” he said.
“The open final will be played in a best-of-three format.
“We have also provided a Plate (consolation) draw for all events, assuring all players of a second chance for every event in which they play.”
