400 entries for Pride of PNG award
THE Pride of PNG Awards for Women has received almost 400 nominations by the City Pharmacy Ltd (CPL) Group nationwide for this year.
CPL marketing manager Prue Go said that they were happy with the number of entries received this year as this was the highest so far.
“This is Pride of PNG’s fourth year and it is a solid indication that many are now recognising the extraordinary efforts of some low-profile Papua New Guinean women.
“CPL group is also thankful for the nod from this year’s judges,” Go added.
The judges include Nasfund chief executive officer Ian Tarutia, Scholarship PNG’s Vivienn Carroll, Transparency International’s Emily Taule, the national parliament’s Michelle Hau’ofa and 2008 Pride of PNG Winner for disability Manika Igo.
The presentation of this year’s winners is slated on Aug 20 at the Gateway Hotel by the patron Governor-General Sir Paulias Matane.
The award conceptualised by the CPL Group is to honour everyday Papua New Guinean women who do extraordinary things – the unsung heroines of our communities – whose contribution to PNG life is not widely known.
There are six medals to be awarded for the six categories – bravery and courage, care and compassion, formerly disability category, young Papua New Guineans community spirit, education/role model and environment.
