MORE than 403 students from 10 schools in the National Capital District took part in the first-ever NCD junior biathlon at the Taurama Leisure Centre on Saturday.
It was the first time the National Capital District went ahead in organising such an event which included swimming and running for juniors in the 7-10 years age groups and 11-15 years age groups.
This year was the introduction of Sanitarian product, WeetBix, which sponsored the T-shirts and medals for all the participants.
The organisers revealed on Saturday that the event would be bigger and better next year, with the inclusion of cycling so that the children would be able to experience a junior triathlon.
The schools that took part were Wardstrip, Ted Diro, Pari, Bavaroko, St Theresa, Sevese Morea, Butuka, Sacred Heart, POM Grammer and Boreboa.
It was the first time that primary schools in the city experienced such a sport that tested both their athletic abilities on land and in the water.
Those students who participated in the event were happy with what the National Capital District Commission had embarked on to involve children in a relatively new sport.
The event was part of NCDC’s vision to embark on providing avenues for children to develop healthier and fitter lifestyles and be active and productive citizens.
