A GROUP of 412 youths have been awarded certificates by the Youth Job Corp after completing a 40-day training programme.
The Urban Youth Empowerment project is an initiative of the National Capital District Commission and World Bank.
The youths were from Gerehu, North Waigani, Morata, Taurama, Kilakila and Kaugere in the National Capital District.
They were awarded the certificates at the Salvation Army Hall in Boroko yesterday.
They were involved in road and drainage maintenance, refuse removal and the refurbishment of classrooms in their areas.
The programme was implemented last March and will continue to May.
Project manager Tom Gilis congratulated them saying there were other empowering programmes designed for youths.
Some of those who completed the training had managed to find employment.
Those who pass the numeracy and literacy skill tests have gone on to do further studies in business.
