LAST year’s Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge winners Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC) are looking forward to defending the title when this year’s edition is played at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club tomorrow.
Team MRDC will be led by Lucas Komane and are part of a field of 46 teams in the four-man ambrose event. Last year 30 teams competed in the fundraising event.
The increase in the number of teams and participants means the PNG Olympic Committee can expect more funds to be raised to support Team PNG’s participation at the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.
Given the K3000 team registration, PNGOC is expecting at least K138,000 to be raised for the 20 sports that comprise the national team.
The PM’s Corporate Golf Challenge, which traditionally sees the Prime Minister tee off the competition, is the second major fundraising intiative for the PNGOC — the other being the Trukai Fun Run which is held earlier in the year
All the corporate sponsors including The National have teams in the competition.
Aside from the prizes and trophies on offer to the winners and the rest of the field, a lucky golfer could win himself or herself a Toyota Hilux (open back) if they hit a hole-in-one at the 18th.
Event organisers and staff as well as some teams will wear T-shirts provided by The National.
