5-year-old, two adults cheat death in Moresby
The National, Wednesday 29th Febuary 2012
TWO adults and a five-year-old child narrowly escaped death after the vehicle they were travelling in veered off Waigani Drive yesterday morning.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle had been speeding when the driver lost control of it.
The vehicle veered off the road and overturned at around 8am opposite the Port Moresby Country Club.
This is the second vehicle to overturn on that section of the road.
The first accident happened last year and involved Kumul player Jessie Joe Parker and three other passengers.
But yesterday’s 28-year-old driver from Aroma, Central province, denied he had been speeding.
“I was travelling at around 60kph when the vehicle veered off the road,” he said.
Aulu Vanua, who was at first reluctant to speak, said he lost control of the vehicle when his younger brother Eden grabbed his hand while trying to move from the back seat to the front.
Vanua said they were on their way to Gerehu to drop off an aunt, Vagi Vanua, when the accident occurred.
He said no one suffered any serious injury although his aunt had bruises to her arms and had to seek treatment at the hospital.
