THE Bomana Police College has started training 261 new recruits, including 50 women.

Royal PNG Constabulary Deputy Commissioner and chief of administration Awan Sete attended the opening of the six-month training last Friday.

“I congratulate you for being selected to undergo constable training here at the college,” Sete said, adding that many wanted to join but they were the lucky ones.

He said it would be tough and challenging.

“Here at Bomana we transform boys to men and girls to women,” he said. He said the recruitment was part of the government’s plan to increase the constabulary strength from 5000 to 10,000 by  2017.

The Government allocated K268 million for the police modernisation programme.  Sete said  under the programme more recruits would trained for events like elections and the 2018 APEC meeting.
