FIVE-hundred students graduated from the Mapex Training Institute’s (MTI) business studies department last week.
MTI chief executive officer Marcus Kara said the students would make a contribution to the development of Papua New Guinea.
“With the country developing and a lot of investors coming in, we need a lot of skilled people that will perform various administrative jobs as well as trade jobs,” Kara said.
“The unemployment rate is big because students don’t find work after completing high school and these sort of training will help reduce that.”
Kara said the students went through theory and practical training which enabled them to graduate with certificates and diplomas in business studies.
“They (students) went through competency-based trainings with possible employers to determine if they are capable of performing tasks studied.
“If the employer sees that they are competent they will be hired to work with that company after graduating.”
