LIFEasy Tru Ltd is to give 5,000 schools in rural areas a free solar light and panel worth K200 each.
Under the K1 million programme, the recipient school will act as the dealer of the solar equipment.
Company managing director Roy Bird said he was proud to help the schools in the remote areas.
“This will generate income for the school in an arrangement which is the first of its kind in the country,” he said.
“The young children who attend these schools are the leaders of tomorrow, so this is an opportunity to help their education, while at the same time, teach them about the benefits of clean, free and environmentally-friendly solar power.”
The distributor rolled out the programme last week in the Markham area and is now distributing panels in Goroka, Eastern Highlands.
