A GROUP of 53 emerging leaders participated in workshops in Port Moresby put together by the University of Adelaide and the University of Queensland.
The workshops were part of a series of short-course scholarships offered through the Australia Awards.
The courses will enable participants involved in key trade and diplomacy roles to sharpen their skills to represent the country, particularly at the APEC meetings in 2018.
In April, international trade students will travel to Adelaide to attend the University of Adelaide and the International diplomacy students will travel to Brisbane to study at the University of Queensland.
They were addressed by Ambassador Ivan Pomaleu, the APEC Secretariat, Rod Hilton, the Minister Counsellor at the Australian High Commission and Professor Christopher Findlay, the Executive Dean, Faculty of the Professions at the University of Adelaide.
Hilton spoke about the importance of building collaborative and productive relationships and trade opportunities in the Asia Pacific region.
He hoped that the participants would gain a lot from their studies in Australia to provide knowledge, advice and wisdom to advance PNG’s interests in the region.
Australian Awards assists the public and private sectors, civil and non-government organisations, to support the skills development of working professionals in PNG’s priority sectors.
