BUSINESS training conducted by the Small and Medium Enterprises Corporation (Smec) targeting Papua New Guinea’s 6,112 wards is a government service, a senior official says.
Managing director Petrus Ralda said this on Friday in Jiwaka after 61 participants received certificates after attending a two-week training conducted by Smec on starting business.
The 61, from Papen village in Kindeng, Anglimp-South Waghi, had made use of the opportunity through their Atbe Pig Farmers cooperative society.
Ralda said villagers from Papen and the surrounding Kindeng area had come to realise the importance of the service Smec provided.
He said many people complained about lack of government services but the training was a way of giving them a new perspective and skills to be actively involved in the local economy.
He said the government was delivering roads, bridges, health, education and even SME training conducted by the corporation.
Ralda told the people that the government was playing its part to deliver and they had to use the opportunities wisely.
He said the SME training conducted nationwide was used in 130 countries.
